Life beyond the classroom at GSV Hoogbegaafd
At GSV Hoogbegaafd, learning does not stop when you leave the classroom. Through a wide range of activities, we make learning even more engaging and ensure pupils continue discovering new things.
Visits to the school gardens
Each year, the children participate in a gardening project organized by NDE (Nature and Environmental Education). They plant, care for, and harvest their own vegetables, learning about nature, sustainability, and healthy nutrition. In this way, they discover how everything grows and changes with the seasons.
Exploring the surroundings
We regularly go on outings in and around Groningen, for example to the Drenthe forests, the Fairy Tale Forest, or the Paterswoldsemeer lake. In groups 7 and 8, pupils go on an overnight school camp—often one of the highlights of the year.
Holidays and celebrations
Throughout the year, we celebrate various holidays and special occasions such as Sinterklaas, St. Martin’s Day, Christmas, Easter, the King’s Games, and Liberation Day. From creative classroom celebrations to shared school-wide activities, there is always something to look forward to. Together, we create a warm and festive atmosphere.
Drama and musicals
Each class has the opportunity to participate in a play, musical, or performance in our own auditorium. This gives children the chance to express themselves, build confidence, and create something meaningful together.
Chess team
The gifted department of GSV has an active chess team that has successfully participated in national competitions multiple times. With players who have qualified as national champions or achieved podium placements, the chess club is an important part of extracurricular activities.
