Participation Council ("Medezeggenschapsraad" - MR)
The MR is a representative body of staff and parents. The MR meets with the Director to discuss, among other things, staffing, the budget, the holiday schedule, policy plans, and protocols, and advises the Director when it deems necessary.
General Members' Meeting ("Algemene
Ledenvergadering" - ALV)
IPSG Parent Meeting in English
Due to the fact that Dutch is the language is which all ALV meetings are set, a separate parent meeting in English is organised. This meeting is attended by the Director the team leader of IPSG, and is specifically intended for IPSG parents to discuss relevant matters in a more accessible setting.
Group Parent Meetings (GOC’S)
Parents from each group (meaning, each year or class) meet four times a year with the team leader of the relevant department. These meetings discuss daily school life and classroom experiences, supporting cooperation and communication between families and the school.
Information Evening
At the start of the school year, parents are invited to their child’s new classroom. They can meet the teacher(s) and one another. During this evening, the teacher(s) provide extensive information about the upcoming school year.
Help in the Classroom
At the beginning of the school year, teachers contact parents to encourage their involvement in various class activities. This may include help with transport to events, support during sports days, help in the school gardens, participation in musicals, and participation in these meetings.
Participation Council (MR)
Every school is legally required to have a Participation Council ("Medezeggenschapsraad" - MR), consisting of representatives of parents and staff. The MR has the right to approve and advise on school policy matters. For example, both parents and staff must approve the school guide, school regulations, and the educational objectives of the school, or any change to these. Staff have the right of approval on almost all matters relating to their position as employees.
The MR also has the task - alongside the board - of safeguarding the proper functioning of the school. This means that the MR may raise and discuss any matters relating to the school.
The MR operates under the Participation in Schools Act ("Wet Medezeggenschap op scholen" - WMS), which also specifies which matters required the advice or approal of the the MR. The MR of our school is affiliated with the Landelijke Commissie voor Geschillen WMS.
Cooperation with School Leadership and School Board
The MR consults with the Director about important school matters. In some cases, the Director must request advice or approval from the Supervisory Board (RvT). These matters are detailed in the management statute, for example regarding merger plans and policy for the hiring and dismissal of staff.
At the request of the MR, the Director attends MR meetings to provide advice and information on submitted proposals. Twice a year, the MR meets with the Supervisory Board.
Composition and Meetings
At our school, the MR consists of four parents and four staff members. Within both groups, one member represents IPSG and one member represents GSV Hoogbegaafd. MR members are elected and serve for at least three years. After that, they may stand for re-election.
The MR meets four to six times a year to discuss ongoing matters. The protocols from MR meetings can be requested via info@g-s-v.nl or by phone at (050) 527 08 18.
