Our school was founded in 1910 as an association, in which parents work together with the school. Parents who enrol their child at GSV become members of the Parent Association ("Oudervereniging GSV") and pay a membership contribution. This contribution can be adjusted according to financial capacity.

Contribution amounts can be found in the Documents section.

As members of Parent Association, parents can influence school policy during the annual General Members’ Meeting. Each year, the GSV board reports to the Parent Association about how the contributions have been managed and spent.

Contribution

Thanks to the contributions paid by parents as members of the Parent Association, GSV is able to offer an innovative and high-quality learning environment.

What makes GSV stand out?

  • Small groups (20–22 pupils) in GSV Hoogbegaafd, IPSG, and in the lower grades of GSV Tweetalig.

  • Specialist English teachers - including native speakers, as well as classroom teachers - work together to ensure that 30% of teaching time is delivered in English. GSV is the only accredited TPO school ("Tweetalig Primair Onderwijs") in the three northern provinces of the Netherlands. By the end of primary school, our pupils achieve an exceptionally high level of speaking and writing skills in English.

  • Tailored support: contributions fund additional staff, such as quality coordinators, extra remedial teachers, NT2 specialists, teaching assistants, a behavioural specialist, specialist teachers for project groups, Advanced English, and more.

  • We achieve high-quality education partly through the use of specialist teachers for music, English, physical education, chess, NT2, project groups, visual arts, and Spanish.

  • An international learning environment, including the International Primary Curriculum (IPC). This is our method for global awareness and citizenship education. Language, mathematics, and ICT are also integrated into the themes wherever possible. Our teachers design their topics using this approach.
  • The best ICT facilities in education: personal devices for pupils from group 1 onwards, a dedicated digital learning pathway for groups 1 through 8; learning to code, using and applying robots, drones, and 3D printers in our ICT Lab, and integrating ICT skills into education.
  • Cultural and arts activities such as visits to the Noord Nederlands Orkest (orchestra), museums, and cultural heritage sites.
  • Educational activities such as school gardens, workshops, theatre, and nature education.
